This version of Jack and the Beanstalk was built Norwich Theatre Royal’s 2022–23 pantomime, Scenic Pantomimes delivered a bold, large-scale design that became central to the show’s visual impact. The set combined vibrant colour, playful detail and locally inspired references, creating a rich sense of place while supporting the fast-paced storytelling.
At the heart of the production was a series of high-impact scenic moments, including a huge inflatable beanstalk that filled the stage and an imposing giant realised through integrated puppetry and effects. These elements, alongside seamless transitions between multiple locations—from town streets to Cloudland—helped deliver a dynamic and immersive audience experience.
Critics highlighted the scale, creativity and technical ambition of the design, describing the sets as “big, bold” and visually impressive, with production values “taken up a notch.”
The result was a “stunning” scenic environment that played a key role in making Jack and the Beanstalk one of Norwich Theatre Royal’s most successful and memorable pantomimes to date.
